Men's Tennis Releases 2010 Fall Schedule

NORMAN, Okla. -- The 2010 men's tennis fall tournament schedule was announced Wednesday by the University of Oklahoma Vice President/Athletics Director Joe Castiglione and head coach John Roddick.

The Sooners will compete in six nationwide tournaments this fall and will also host the USTA/ITA Central Regional Championships.

“This is a great opportunity for our new guys to get used to the college tennis experience, while competing at a high level,” said Roddick. “This is the time where our guys can really develop their games heading into the spring.”

Roddick's squad is already off to a good start this fall after sophomore Lawrence Formentera and freshman John Warden teamed up to win the doubles title at the Midland Invitational, Sept. 17-19.

On Sept. 24-26, Roddick will send two Sooners to compete in the UVa Ranked Plus One Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.

Following action in Virginia, the Sooners travel north to Tulsa, Okla., to partake in the ITA/D'Novo All-American Championships on Oct. 2-10.

From there the Sooners turn their attention to the Hill Country Classic, Oct. 9-17, at the Polo Tennis Club in Austin, Texas. The Sooners remain in Texas for their next tournament to compete in the Mansfield, Texas, Futures from Oct. 16-22.

OU then hosts the 2010 USTA/ITA Central Regional Championships, where 18 schools in the central region send their best to qualify for the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships, which takes place in Flushing, New York

“We are really excited to host an ITA Regional here in Norman,” said Roddick. “We were fortunate to host the NCAA Regional's last spring and now we get to host a fall regional. That is really a testament of our first-class facilities and we look forward to hosting more competitive tennis events, like these, in the future.”

The Sooners close out the fall season at the Texas Invitational, Nov. 5-7, in Austin, Texas.
