ATHENS, Ga. – Oklahoma's Andrei Daescu and Costin Paval advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2010 NCAA Doubles Championships after the duo downed South Carolina's Pedro Campos and Diego Cubas Friday, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.
“Andrei and Costin played another great match today,” head coach John Roddick said. “They were extremely solid at the net and they returned really well again today. I am very proud of their effort.”
OU's 18th-ranked tandem claimed a 6-4 victory in the first set and followed that performance with a 6-3 decision in the second set over the Gamecocks No. 25-ranked duo.
The Oklahoma duo will face Stanford's Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher, ranked No. 4. The quarterfinal match will take place on Saturday, May 29 at 3 p.m.
To get to the Round of 16 the talented OU tandem upset Florida's 8th-ranked Antoine Benneteau and Alexandre Lacroix in the first round. With the win, the duo claimed their highest ranked victory of the year.
