ATHENS, Ga. - Oklahoma's Andrei Daescu and Costin Paval upset Florida's Antoine Benneteau and Alexandre Lacroix in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Doubles Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, hosted by the University of Georgia.
"Andrei and Costin played the best doubles I have seen from us all year," head coach John Roddick said. "They served and returned really well and they didn't miss volleys. When you do those three basics well, good things will happen."
The Sooners' 18th-ranked tandem downed the Gator's No. 8-ranked duo in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, Thursday, to advance to the Round of 16.
The duo will take on South Carolina's 25th-ranked duo comprised of Pedro Campos and Diego Cubas Friday, May 28 at 12 p.m
The victory marks the duo's highest win of the year. The OU tandem has now defeated four pairs ranked in the ITA top-24, including Tulsa's 24th-ranked tandem twice. In total, the duo has defeated nine tandems in the top-80.
"It was great to see Andrei extend his Sooner career today," Roddick
