Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational

PALO ALTO, Calif. — Jacob Boone and Kevin Williams led a men's distance group late Saturday night at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational that broke two Oklahoma records as the duo accomplished the feat in the 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter runs, respectively.
Boone's time of 3:42.19 snapped a 29-year old stronghold that Erin Rankin had previously held on the 1,500-meter race. Rankin's time of 3:42.76 in 1981 fell to Boone as the junior took his third school record, his first of the outdoor variety. Boone finished fifth overall in the first section of the event at the meet that typically features a strong distance field. The time is the best in the Big 12 Conference this season.
Following Boone's lead, Williams took over a school record in the 5,000-meter run. Unlike Boone though, Williams' new record did not snap a long time record as the redshirt-freshman lowered his own program record with a time of 13:51.13. Williams had previously recorded a time of 13:53.08 on the same track at last month's Stanford Invitational.
