NORMAN, Okla. – The 42nd-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team makes its first NCAA postseason appearance in six years as the Sooners take on No. 24 Arkansas in first round action on Friday, May 14 at 2 p.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

Oklahoma (18-6, 8-5 Big 12) hosts the NCAA First and Second rounds for the third time in program history.  OU will play Arkansas in the first round, while top-seed No. 16 Texas faces Missouri Valley Champion Wichita State.

The first round winners will advance to the regional championship match on Saturday, May 15 at 2 p.m.

“The girls are finishing up finals and are looking forward to their rematch with Arkansas on Friday,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “We have improved since the last time we played them and I think it should be a very competitive match.”

OU heads to the NCAA Championships for just the sixth time in school history after a historic season.  This season marks only the seventh time in the program that an OU squad has won at least 18 matches in a season.

OU has beaten five nationally-ranked opponents, has shut out its opponent six times and went 11-3 at home.

“We are fortunate to be hosting this regional so we hope to take full advantage of playing on our home courts,” Mullins said. “We hope to see a lot of fans out there, and we believe it can make a big difference to our outcome this weekend. It will be an outstanding few days of tennis no matter what happens.”

The Sooners are led in both singles and doubles by nationally-ranked individuals.

Ana-Maria Constantinescu and partner Teona Tsertsvadze are ranked No. 41 in doubles while Constantinescu is ranked No. 106 in singles.

Oklahoma won the doubles point in 16 of 24 matches (.667) and won a combined 45 of 67 doubles matches (.672).

The Sooners have won a combined 90 of 139 singles matches (.647) and have won 73 of those 90 in straight-sets (.811).  All six members of OU's singles lineup boast records of .600 or better.
