NORMAN, Okla.—The 37th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team looks to top its fifth nationally-ranked opponent Saturday, as the Sooners take on No. 41 Texas A&M at 11 a.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
Oklahoma (13-3, 3-2 Big 12) enters Saturday's match following a 6-1 loss to No. 36 Texas on April 3. Despite the loss, the Sooners are off to one of the best seasons in school history. This season is only the sixth time in program history that an OU squad has gone 13-3 or better.
This season, the Sooners have beaten four nationally-ranked opponents, have shut out their opponent in five matches and are 9-1 at home. OU's three losses were all to top-40 teams, including No. 1 Baylor and No. 20 Arkansas on the road.
OU has won a combined 31 of 47 doubles matches this season (.661) and has won the doubles point in 11 of 16 dual matches (. 688). In singles, the Sooners have won 64 of 95 singles matches (.674) and won 54 of those 64 in straight-sets (.844).
Junior Ana-Maria Constantinescu and freshman Teona Tsertsvadze are ranked No. 29 nationally in doubles. Constantinescu is also ranked No. 93 nationally in singles.
Texas A&M (8-5, 3-0 Big 12) is coming off a 4-3 loss to No. 6 Notre Dame on April 5 after beating Texas Tech, 5-2, the previous week. The Aggies are currently in third place in the conference behind Baylor and Nebraska, both are 16-2 overall and 5-0 in Big 12 play.
The Aggies have three nationally-ranked individuals in both singles and doubles. In singles, Elze' Potgieter is ranked No. 58, Nazari Urbina is No. 70 and Morgan Frank is No. 116. In doubles, A&M has three pairs in the national rankings. Potgieter and Frank are ranked No. 43, Potgieter and Urbina are No. 71 and Sheri Olivier and Stephanie Davidson are No. 79.
Saturday's match is one of OU's four remaining home matches this season. Admission to all OU women's tennis events is free for all.
