NORMAN, Okla. – 21st-ranked Oklahoma returns to Big 12 action in the season's second edition of Bedlam at No. 47 Oklahoma State Wednesday, April 7 at 2 p.m.
“It's going to be tough up there,” OU head coach John Roddick said. “I think they have been getting better as a team and it's going to be a tough match for us.”
Oklahoma (13-4, 0-2 Big 12) is coming off an impressive, 4-3, showing at No. 32 Tulsa. Prior to that, OU dropped Big 12 contests to then-No. 17 Texas A&M and No. 4 Texas.
On the year, OU has defeated nine teams ranked in the ITA top-75, while each of the Sooners' losses have come against teams ranked in the ITA top 15.
Oklahoma is led by a trio of ranked individuals including 23rd-ranked senior Andrei Daescu, No. 54 Ionut Beleleu and 64th-ranked Costin Paval.
In addition, OU has two ranked doubles teams in No. 47 Daescu and Paval and No. 71 Daescu and Beleleu. Daescu and Paval are coming off their biggest win of the year after upsetting Tulsa's 30th-ranked duo of Ashley Watling and Philip Stephens, 8-5.
Oklahoma State (7-9, 0-3 Big 12) enters tomorrow's matchup coming off a 4-3 loss at Nebraska. In singles, 14th-ranked Oleksandr Nedovyesov and No. 98 Anton Bobytski lead the Cowboys. OSU also boasts the No. 16-ranked doubles squad in Nedovyesov and Aleksey Bessonov.
On Feb. 21, then-No. 44 Oklahoma ended a 20-match losing streak to the Cowboys after Beleleu clinched the match, 4-3, in the third set over then-No. 32 OSU's Bobytski. In that match, OU dropped the doubles portion, only to rally and claim wins at the No. 2, 3, 5, and 6 positions to win the dual.
