NORMAN, Okla. – The 43rd-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team heads north for its final road matches of the season. The Sooners face Kansas State on Saturday, April 17 and Kansas on Sunday, April 18, both matches begin at 11 a.m.
Oklahoma (14-4, 4-3 Big 12) enters the weekend following a 4-3 win over in-state rival No. 59 Oklahoma State. The Sooners are off to one of their best seasons in school history. This season marks only the 10th time in program history that an OU squad has gone 14-4 or better.
This season, the Sooners have beaten five nationally-ranked opponents, have shut out their opponent in five matches and are 10-2 at home.
Ana-Maria Constantinescu, ranked No. 88 nationally in singles, tops OU's lineup at the No. 1 position. All six players in OU's singles lineup boast winning records and five of the six have records of .600 or better.
OU is led by 23rd-ranked Constantinescu and Teona Tsertsvadze in doubles. The Sooners have won the doubles point in 12 of 18 (.667) matches and have won a combined 34 of 53 (.642) doubles matches.
Kansas State (6-9, 3-4 Big 12) is coming off a 5-2 win at Missouri last weekend. The Wildcats lost a close 4-3 match to Colorado two days before the win over the Tigers. The Sooners lead the series with KSU 22-12 and have won the last three meetings.
Kansas (9-10, 1-6 Big 12) enters this weekend on a four-match losing streak. The Jayhawks also faced Colorado and Missouri last weekend, losing 6-1 to the Buffs and 4-3 to the Tigers. Kansas leads OU in the series history, 20-15, and won last year's match, 5-2.
