NORMAN, Okla. - No. 20 Oklahoma (15-4, 1-3) dropped its first home match of the season to 11th-ranked Baylor Friday, 5-2, inside the Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion.

"I think our guys played well in singles, but I think if you win the doubles point the match obviously has a different feel to it," head coach John Roddick said.

In doubles, the Bears (18-5, 2-2) narrowly escaped the Sooners after squeaking out an 11-9 tiebreaker set win at the No. 3 spot to take the lead, 1-0.

The battle at the No. 3 doubles position was the first match to conclude. Oklahoma senior Blake Boswell and freshman Lawrence Formentera trailed Baylor's Maros Horny and Sergio Ramirez, 5-2, but rallied to even the score at five-all, before eventually dropping the set, 8-5.

OU's 15th-ranked Andrei Daescu and Costin Paval continued their winning ways at the No. 1 position after the duo downed the Bears' No. 34-ranked tandem of Denes Lucaks and Roberto Maytin, 8-6. The duo has now won four-straight matches over ranked opponents and has defeated four pairs ranked in the top-35 and six total in the top 62.

The doubles point came down to a heated tiebreaker set at the No. 2 position between the Sooners' Ionut Beleleu and David Pultr and Baylor's Attila Bucko and Jordan Rux. The Baylor tandem narrowly defeated the OU duo, 9-8(9).

"The doubles point is crucial for us," Roddick said. "When we play good teams like Baylor and the other good teams in the Big 12 you need to get those doubles points. We have been short by one point literally a few times now. That's where our guys have to do a better job of understanding what focus is. When they understand that then we will win those."

In singles, the Bears took a 2-0 lead after Dominik Mueller downed OU's Formentera in identical sets, 6-1.

OU's Pultr brought the Sooners within one point of the Bears, 2-1, after he beat BU's Maytin in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, at the No. 4 spot.

Baylor climbed ahead 3-1 after claiming a win at the No. 6 position.

The Bears' Attila Bucko clinched the match at the No. 3 position after he beat OU's Paval in three sets.

Daescu gave the Sooners their second point of the match after he dropped BU's No. 39-ranked Rux at the No. 2 position.

Oklahoma continues action Sunday, April 18 at 1 p.m., when they host No. 16 Texas Tech to close out "Rush the Courts Weekend."

"It's going to be more of the same," Roddick said. "Hopefully the guys can learn from today and we as coaches can learn and help them improve in the areas they need to improve. It's not really about hitting balls for us now, it's about focusing and what is upstairs. That is what it is about for us. If we can get better at that then we will get better. If we don't get better at that then those matches will continue to be tough."
