NORMAN, Okla.—No. 36 Oklahoma returns home to take on Wichita State Friday, March 5, at 4 p.m., at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
Oklahoma (7-1, 0-0 Big 12) looks to remain unbeaten at home and earn its first win against Wichita State since 2005. Although OU leads the all-time series with the Shockers, 21-3, the Sooners have lost the last two-meetings.
The Sooners hope to build on their recent success, OU's 7-1 season start is the fourth-best start after eight matches in the program's 35 seasons.
OU has shutout their opponent in five of their eight matches this season and has picked up two wins over top-40 opponents.
Oklahoma has won a combined 18 of 23 doubles matches this season and has won the doubles point in seven of eight dual matches. In singles, OU has won a combined 36 of 47 matches and has won 32 of those 36 in straight-sets.
Wichita State (3-5, 1-0 MVC) is coming off a 4-3 win over Kansas State on the road last weekend. The Shockers also topped Creighton and Penn State earlier in the season.
Leading the way for OU will be last year's Big 12 Player of the Year, Ana-Maria Constantinescu. Constantinescu, ranked No. 76 nationally in singles, will take on WSU's No. 39-ranked Lutfiana Budiharto at the No. 1 singles position.
Budiharto and Constantinescu are ranked No. 1 and No. 5 in the ITA Central Region respectively and last met in the semifinal round at the regional championships in Norman last October. Constantinescu defeated Budiharto in the tiebreaker set, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
OU and Wichita State both also boast nationally-ranked doubles pairs. OU's Constantinescu and partner Teona Tsertsvadze are ranked No. 31 nationally and No. 2 regionally. While WSU's Delia Damaschin and Stephanie Dalmacio are ranked No. 59 nationally.
Friday's match is OU's sixth home-match of the season and the Sooners' last home contest before a three-game road stance. Admission is free to all women's tennis home tennis events.
