NORMAN, Okla. – The 19th-ranked Oklahoma men's tennis team travels up I-44 to take on No. 31 Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center Thursday, April 1, at 5 p.m.
The Sooners (12-4, 0-2 Big 12) are coming off two hard fought road losses against 12th-ranked Texas A&M and No. 5 Texas. Prior to entering Big 12 play, Oklahoma was on a tear, winning ten straight matches before advancing to the finals of the Blue-Gray Tennis Classic where the Sooners fell to No. 13 Texas Tech.
During OU's ten match winning streak the Sooners defeated eight teams ranked in the ITA top-70, while each of OU's losses have come against teams ranked in the ITA top 13.
Oklahoma is led by a trio of ranked individuals including 23rd-ranked senior Andrei Daescu, No. 54 Ionut Beleleu and 64th-ranked Costin Paval. In addition, OU has two ranked doubles teams in Daescu and Paval (No. 47) and Daescu and Beleleu (No. 71).
The Hurricane (13-5) has won three straight matches and is fresh off a 6-1 victory over No. 50 Arkansas Tuesday evening. In singles TU is led by 50th-ranked Ashley Watling and No. 55 Marcelo Arevalo. Tulsa also has one ranked duo comprised of Philip Stephens and Watling (No. 30).
Since 1952, the Sooners hold a 28-18 advantage over the Hurricane. However, the Sooners have lost three in a row to TU.
