NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 31 Oklahoma women's tennis team takes a break from conference play Thursday as the Sooners face Marquette at 3:30 p.m., at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
Oklahoma (12-2, 3-1) looks to remain unbeaten and improve to 8-0 at home this season against the Golden Eagles. OU enters Thursday's match after topping Missouri, 6-1, and No. 65 Colorado, 4-3, last weekend in Norman. The Sooners currently lead the series with Marquette, 1-0, after OU won the teams' first meeting in 2008.
Marquette (11-9) is coming off a two-match losing streak, the Golden Eagles fell, 4-3, to both San Francisco and Santa Clara. Sophomore Gillian Hush leads the Golden Eagles in singles, Hush has picked up 22 singles wins this season.
The Sooners are off to the program's best season start since 2004. This season, OU has shut out its opponent five times, has beaten four nationally-ranked opponents and is 8-0 at home. This season marks only the fifth time in program history that a Sooner squad has gone 12-2.
All six members of OU's singles lineup boast winning records and the Sooners have won the doubles point in 11 of their 14 matches.
The Sooners remained in the ITA top 75 for the eighth-straight week, OU remained at No. 31 in the latest poll released on March 30. OU's No. 31 mark is the program's highest team ranking since Feb. 16, 2005 when OU was ranked No. 24.
Thursday's match is the ninth of OU's 14 home matches this season, admission to all OU women's tennis matches is free for all.
