NORMAN, Okla. –The 31st-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team begins a six-match home stance this weekend, hosting Missouri on Friday, March 26 at 6 p.m., and No. 65 Colorado on Sunday, March 28 at 1 p.m.
Fans in attendance on Friday will receive a free OU fan banner and children in attendance on Sunday will get a free Sooner growth chart. Admission to all OU women's tennis home events is free for all.
Oklahoma (10-2, 1-1 Big 12) returns to Norman after three-straight road matches. The Sooners defeated No. 67 Charleston, 5-2, on March 14 and beat Texas Tech, 4-3, on March 19. OU then faced top-ranked Baylor in Waco who proved to be too much for the Sooners, OU lost 6-1.
Despite losing to No. 1 Baylor, OU is off to one of the best starts in school history. This season marks only the eighth time in the program's 35 seasons that an OU squad has gone 10-2 after twelve matches.
The Sooners remained in the ITA top-75 national rankings for the seventh-straight week, jumping three spots to No. 31 in the latest poll released on March 23. The No. 31 mark is the school's highest national ranking since Feb. 16, 2005, when OU landed at the No. 24 spot.
Junior Ana-Maria Constantinescu is ranked No. 90 nationally in singles and No. 21 in doubles with partner Teona Tsertsvadze. All six players on OU's singles lineup boast winning records and the Sooners have five different doubles teams with winning records.
The Sooners' two losses have both been to ITA top-20 opponents, including No. 1 Baylor and then-ranked No. 20 Arkansas. OU has shut out their opponent in five matches this season, is undefeated at home and has beaten three nationally-ranked opponents.
Missouri (5-8, 0-2 Big 12) enters Friday's match following two non-conference wins against West Virginia and Houston. The Tigers opened conference play the previous week, losing to Iowa State, 4-3, and No. 43 Nebraska, 7-0.
Colorado (7-6, 0-2 Big 12) is currently ranked No. 65 in the latest ITA poll despite a recent three-match losing streak. The Buffs also lost to Iowa State, 5-2, and No. 43 Nebraska, 7-0, to open conference play before falling to No. 20 South Carolina, 5-2, on March 20.
Colorado also has two players ranked in the ITA top-125 singles and one pair in the top-75 doubles. Milisa Esposito is ranked No. 110 in singles and Monica Milewski is ranked No. 121. Esposito is also ranked No. 31 in doubles with partner Camila Belassi.
