Roddick's Squad Enters ITA Top 25

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma men's tennis squad (7-1) jumped five spots to No. 21 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Top-25 rankings released Tuesday.

The Sooners were previously ranked No. 26 but breached the top 25 after impressive wins over No. 46 Minnesota, 5-2, and No. 43 Indiana, 6-1.

In addition to OU's team ranking, the Sooners possess three singles players ranked in the top 75. Leading the way for the Sooners is senior Andrei Daescu, No. 17. Freshman Costin Paval jumped 18 spots to No. 62 and junior Ionut Beleleu checks in at No. 74.

On the season, OU has defeated five teams ranked in the ITA top 75. The Sooners only loss came at No. 9 Stanford.

The Big 12 remains a hotbed for tennis talent with five teams ranked in the top-21 and six teams in the top 67. Eight of OU's final ten opponents were ranked in the latest ITA poll.

The last time the Sooners were ranked in the top-25 was the 2007 season. The last time OU's season-ending rank in was in the top-25 was the 1976 season when Oklahoma finished 16th.

Next up, OU hosts Wichita State at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 7, outside at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
