NORMAN, Okla.— The 34th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team opens conference play over the weekend as the Sooners face Texas Tech on Friday, March 19 and No. 1 Baylor on Sunday, March 21.
Oklahoma (9-1, 0-0 Big 12) is coming off its third win over a nationally-ranked opponent. The Sooners defeated then-No. 67 College of Charleston on the road on March 14, 5-2.
Texas Tech (5-6, 0-1 Big 12) enters Friday's match after dropping its first conference match to then-No. 9 Baylor at home, 6-1.
The Red Raiders are 3-1 at home this season, with their only home loss coming to the No. 1 Bears. Texas Tech topped Texas-Arlington, Tulane and New Mexico in Lubbock earlier this season.
Baylor (11-2, 2-0 Big 12) jumped to the No. 1 spot in this week's ITA rankings after defeating No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 North Carolina and No. 13 USC in a four-day span.
The Bears have four singles players ranked in the top-125, including two players in the top-20, and one doubles pair ranked in the nation's top-10.
The Sooners are now 3-1 against opponents ranked in the ITA top-75 this season, including two wins over top-40 opponents.
OU's 9-1 mark is tied for the program's second-best record after 10 matches. It is only the fourth time in school history that an OU squad has started the spring season 9-1 or better.
