NORMAN, Okla. – The 44th-ranked Sooners (3-1) face their toughest challenge of the season as they square off against No. 20 Alabama (3-4) Friday, at 6 p.m., inside the Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion.
“We are fortunate to have a team like Alabama coming into Norman,” OU head coach John Roddick said. “They (Alabama) just qualified for the National Indoors and have played probably the toughest schedule in the country, to date. It is a great opportunity to really see where we are at against a highly-ranked team and one that has had a lot of success this season against good teams.”
Oklahoma enters Friday's match coming off an impressive, 7-0, sweep over No. 51 Arkansas. The Sooners won all six singles matches in straight-sets against the Razorbacks to remain unbeaten (2-0) at home.
Alabama faces the Sooners following a disappointing outing at the ITA National Indoor Championships. The Crimson Tide lost three consecutive matches to No. 6 Virginia, No. 11 Mississippi and No. 5 Baylor. In singles action Alabama is led by Saketh Myneni (No. 62) and Michael Thompson (No. 123) and in doubles the Crimson Tide have two top-40 tandems.
Next up, Oklahoma faces in-state foe Oklahoma State Sunday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. for its first Bedlam edition of the season.
