NORMAN, Okla.—No. 55 Oklahoma faces its toughest challenge yet as the Sooners face No. 32 Tulsa Wednesday at 2 p.m., in their first road match of the season.
Oklahoma (5-0, 0-0 Big 12) enters Wednesday's match coming off five-straight wins, including an upset over No. 30 Alabama and four shutout victories over ORU, Arkansas-Little Rock, North Texas and Penn State.
The Sooners' 5-0 mark matches the program's best start in seven seasons. The last time OU started 5-0 was in 2005 when the Sooners won five-straight matches before losing to BYU.
"We are expecting our toughest challenge of the year with Tulsa tomorrow,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “Tulsa has a very balanced lineup and we are definitely going to have to play our best tennis to keep our winning streak alive."
Oklahoma has won with consistency this season. The Sooners have won the doubles point in every dual match in 2010, winning 13 of 15 doubles matches total. In singles, OU has won 27 of 30 singles matches overall and has won 24 of those 27 in straight-sets.
Tulsa (6-3, 1-1 C-USA) faces the Sooners following three-straight losses to top-25 opponents. Tulsa is 1-3 against ranked opponents this season. The Hurricane defeated No. 40 Pepperdine on the road on Jan. 29 but lost to No. 12 UCLA, No. 17 Arkansas and No. 25 SMU.
"The girls are excited for their first road trip of the season and look forward to the opportunity they have tomorrow,” Mullins said.
OU faced a familiar feat against the Golden Hurricane last season. The Sooners upset then-ranked No. 32 Tulsa, 4-3, on the road on March 4, 2009.
