OU Jumps in National Rankings, Faces Penn State

NORMAN, Okla.--The No. 55 University of Oklahoma women's tennis team looks to remain unbeaten as the Sooners host Penn State Sunday, Feb. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gregg Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion.

"We are eager to face off against Penn State this weekend," OU head coach David Mullins said. "We are going to try and build on the progress we have made over the last several weeks."

Oklahoma (4-0, 0-0 Big 12) enters Sunday's match after upsetting No. 30 Alabama last week, 4-3. The win was one of the biggest upsets in program history, and the biggest upset under head coach David Mullins.

The Sooners entered the ITA top-75 team rankings for the first time since March 11, 2009. OU landed at the No. 55 spot in the most recent poll released Friday, marking the program's highest ranking under head coach David Mullins.

The Sooners' 4-0 record marks the program's best start in five seasons. In 2005, OU started the season with five-straight wins before losing to BYU.

"Last year was an exciting dual meet in Happy Valley," Mullins said. "Both teams have made great improvements this season and I am expecting another great match."

Penn State (2-2, 0-1 Big Ten) enters Sunday's match after back-to-back losses to Purdue and Akron. The Nittany Lions started the season with wins over Bucknell and Lehigh.

OU and Penn State met for the first time in history on Feb. 20, 2009 in University Park, Pa. The Sooners defeated the Nittany Lions, 6-1.

Sunday's match is one of OU's 14 home matches this season. Admission is free to all women's tennis home tennis events.
