AUSTIN, Texas – Oklahoma men's tennis freshman John Warden claimed the Austin Invitational B Draw championship after defeating fellow Sooner Jacob Strauss at the Austin Invitational.
"I was really proud of the team this weekend," head coach John Roddick said. "All of the guys had tremendous tournaments and it is nice to see that all of the hard work we have put in this fall is starting to pay off."
Warden, a freshman from Tulsa, beat Strauss in identical sets, 6-4, 6-4, to claim the tournament title. Warden now has two fall tournament championships under his belt as he heads into the spring campaign. Warden's other title was at the Midland Invitational where he and Lawrence Formentera claimed the doubles championship.
"It was good to see Harry and Jacob play each other in the finals of the B draw," Roddick said.
Siributwong, a top-10 freshman newcomer, fell to Florida's Bob Van Overbeek, ranked No. 105 nationally, in the A Draw finals. In route to the finals Siributwong defeated Texas' 77th-ranked Kellen Damico in the quarterfinals before beating Texas A&M's Alexis Klegou in the semifinals.
"Peerakit proved that he is one of the best freshman in the country," Roddick said.
Another newcomer, Tsvetan Mihov, lost in the A Draw consolation finals to Rice's Philip Seifert.
The Sooners will take back to the courts in January when they begin team competition.
