Three Sooners to Compete in Austin Finals

NORMAN, Okla. –Ionut Beleleu was eliminated from play at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in New York, while three Sooners advanced to the Austin Invitational A and B Draw Finals in Austin, Texas.

Ionut Beleleu fell to eight-ranked Eric Quigley of Kentucky in the second round of the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships Consolation draws Saturday at the new indoor facilities at the USTA-Billie Jean National Tennis Center.

The Oklahoma Sooner put up a fight but could not pull off the upset over the Wildcat. Beleleu dropped both sets in identical fashion, 6-2.

The Sooner from Zalua, Romania, put together an outstanding fall resume heading into the 2011 spring season. Beleleu, ranked No. 33 nationally, earned a spot in the prestigious Indoor tournament after winning the USTA/ITA Central Region Singles Championships in Norman on Oct. 25. Beleleu advanced to the UVa A-2 Flight Finals, advanced to the quarterfinals of the All-American Championships and earned the biggest win of his ATP career with a victory over Denis Kudla (599 ATP).

Austin Invitational
Fellow Sooners Jacob Strauss and John Warden will battle one another in the Austin Invitational B Draw Finals, while Peerakit Siributwong will compete in the A Draw Finals Sunday.

Strauss advanced to the finals after defeating Jason Lateko of UTA in quarterfinal action and Collins in the semifinals.

Warden, a freshman from Tulsa, Okla., defeated Otavio Perim of Marquette and Santiago Nieto of Miami to claim a spot in the finals.

Siributwong, a top-10 freshman newcomer, defeated Texas' 77th-ranked Kellen Damico in the quarterfinals before beating Texas A&M's Alexis Klegou in the semifinals. Siributwong will take on Florida's Bob Van Overbeek, ranked No. 105 nationally, in the finals Sunday.

Another newcomer, Tsvetan Mihov, will compete in the A Draw Consolation finals Sunday against Rice's Philip Seifert.
