FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – OU's Ana-Maria Constantinescu and Alice Radu won the 2010 ITA Central Region Doubles Championship Monday, defeating the tournament's No. 1 seed, Claudine Paulson and Anouk Tigu of Arkansas, 8-5, in Fayetteville, Ark.
“We got off to a good start in this match as Arkansas struggled to hold serve,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “Ana-Maria did a great job holding her serve to close out the match and it was a well-deserved victory.”
The OU duo will now get the opportunity to compete at the 2010 ITA National Indoor Championships at the new indoor facilities at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, New York.
“They are thrilled that they now have the opportunity to go to New York and compete with the other top pairings in the country,” Mullins said. “They will be a tough team to beat.”
The title win marks Constantinescu's second-straight doubles regional title. The senior also defeated UA's Paulson and Tigu, currently ranked No. 26 nationally, in the 2009 championship match with former partner Teona Tsertsvadze, 9-7.
