Recapping the Sooners big day (10/23)
The second day of main draw action proved to be a big day for a number of Oklahoma standouts. Three Sooners: Ionut Beleleu, Costin Paval and Peerakit Siributwong advanced to the singles quarterfinals and OU duo John Warden and Lawrence Formentera advanced to the doubles main draw semifinals.

Oklahoma senior Beleleu advanced with ease after claiming straight-set victories over Saint Louis' Bobby Kidera and Nebraska's Benedikt Lindheim.

Siributwong, the newcomer from Thailand, started the day off with a win over OSU's Eric West and followed that performance with a straight-set victory over the nation's 49th-ranked singles player in Nebraska's Calin Paar.

It will be an Oklahoma showdown Sunday when Beleleu and Siributwong face each other in the main draw quarterfinals at 9 a.m.

Paval advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Minnesota's Rok Bonin and Wichita State's David Cavalcanti. The 2010 Big 12 Player of the Year will face Tulsa's 34th-ranked Marcelo Arevalo Sunday.

In doubles action, Warden and Formentera claimed their biggest win as doubles partners after upsetting Minnesota's Gallego and Arndt, No. 28 nationally, 8-5. The Oklahoma duo will face Nebraska's Aumueller and Lindheim in the semifinals Sunday.

OU Head Coach John Roddick on hosting the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships
"We're excited to host the biggest individual tournament in our region," OU head coach John Harry Warden. Beleleu, OU's highest ranked individual, and Paval, the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, are both coming off a strong showing at the Futures of Mansfield.

In addition to OU's Paval and Beleleu, the Sooners have plenty of top-talent competing in the event as Oklahoma newcomers Siributwong and Mihov will take to the OU courts for the first time of their Sooner careers. Both individuals rank among the top 10 National Freshman/Newcomers by the ITA, at No. 4 and No. 7, respectively.

Freshman John Warden is an Oklahoma native from Tulsa, Okla. Warden has performed well in his short amount of time on campus. Warden teamed with sophomore Lawrence Formentera to win the doubles crown at the Midland Invitation on Sept. 20.

Formentera (Colton, Calif.) begins his second season as a Sooner after competing at the No. 5 and 6 singles spot during the Sooners Elite Eight campaign in 2010. The sophomore also played No. 3 doubles for Oklahoma.
