MANSFIELD, Texas – Ionut Beleleu and Costin Paval fell in the second round of the Futures of Mansfield main draw Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Walnut Country Club in Mansfield, Texas.
The Oklahoma stars were off to a great start at the USTA event after earning key wins in the opening round.
Paval, a junior from Romania, started off the day two in a battle with Dimitar Kutrovsky, the fifth overall seed. The Oklahoma All-American fell to the former Texas star, 6-2, 6-3.
Beleleu, fresh of the biggest win of his career, found himself pitted against the tournaments No. 3 seed, Gonzales Austin. The Oklahoma senior from Romania fell to Gonzales, 6-3, 6-4.
Former Sooner Andrei Daescu also fell victim to a seeded player in the second round. The former All-American dropped the first set, 6-2, to Andrea Stoppini, but took the second set 7-6. In the third set the tournament's No. 2 seed proved to much for Daescu as he dropped the set 6-3.
Beleleu and Paval return to action Friday, Oct. 22, in the USTA/ITA Central Region main draw, hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
