Beleleu Earns Biggest Win of Career at Futures

MANSFIELD, Texas -- Ionut Beleleu defeated up-and-coming USA star and previous Futures winner Denis Kudla in the opening round of the Futures of Mansfield main draw Wednesday, October 20, at the Walnut Creek Country Club in Mansfield, Texas.

The Oklahoma Senior took an early lead after winning the first set, 6-4. The Romanian native was outperformed in the second set as Kudla (599 ATP) won, 6-1. In the third set Beleleu held strong to take the set, 6-4.

Beleleu's win over Kudla marks the senior's highest ranked win against a ranked ATP individual. Beleleu's previous highest win came over Syrym Abdukhalikov (1,127 ATP).

Fellow Sooner Costin Paval will join Beleleu in the second round, after Paval defeated Joel Kielbowicz (886 ATP) in three sets Tuesday. Paval will face Dimitar Kutrovsky, the fifth overall seed, Thursday.

Beleleu will also be in action Thursday against either Fritz Wolmarans, the No. 3 seed, or Gonzales Austin.

Former Sooner, Andrei Daescu also posted a big win at the Futures tournament, defeating Texas A&M's Austin Krajicek (700 ATP).
