MANSFIELD, Texas – Oklahoma men's tennis standouts Ionut Beleleu, Costin Paval and Peerakit Siributwong advanced to the second round of the USTA Mansfield Futures Qualifying draw Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Walnut Creek Country Club.
Siributwong, the No. 3 seed and Oklahoma newcomer, dropped his first set to South Florida's Mark Oljaca, 6-4, but rallied to take the next two sets, 6-1, 6-4. The Thailand native will face Spencer Papa in second round action Sunday. Papa, from Edmond, Okla., is ranked the No. 1 national recruit in the class of 2014.
Beleleu, the tournaments seventh seed, defeated Clayton Almeida (861 ATP) in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5. The senior from Zalua, Romania, will take on Nikko Madregallejo, Sunday, in the second round. Madregallejo has a juniors ranking of 1,621.
Paval, the No. 8 seed, handily defeated Viju George Jr. in identical sets, 6-2, 6-2. The 2010 Big 12 Freshman of the Year will continue action Sunday against former Tennessee standout Benjamin Rogers.
Newcomer Tsvetan Mihov was also in action, but fell to Nicola Remedi in the opening round Saturday.
