NORMAN, Okla.—The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team opens spring competition Saturday, Jan. 23 with a doubleheader in Norman.
The Sooners face Arkansas-Little Rock at 11 a.m., followed by Oral Roberts at 6 p.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
"We are all very excited about our first match this coming Saturday,” OU Head Coach David Mullins said. “The girls have looked extremely poised in practice and are hungry to start competing again.”
Leading the way for the Sooners is last year's Big 12 Player of the Year, Ana-Maria Constantinescu. Constantinescu enters the match ranked No. 56 nationally in the ITA preseason singles rankings and No. 39 in the ITA doubles rankings with partner Teona Tsertsvadze.
The Sooners are coming off a strong fall performance with all eight players finishing the tournament season with winning records. OU also claimed a combined five tournament titles this fall, including the ITA Central Region singles and doubles championships.
“We hope to get each girl at least one match,” Mullins said. “I am thrilled that the freshmen get to play their first collegiate home match on our home courts.'
Saturday's matches are two of OU's fourteen home matches this season. Admission is free to all women's tennis home events.
Doubles competition against UALR will begin at 11 a.m. with singles to follow.
