Eckel and Huet Fall in Rice Classic Finals

HOUSTON—Oklahoma's Tara Eckel and Marie-Pier Huet lost in the Rice Classic singles finals on Sunday, while Maria Kalashnikova and Kristina Radan collected wins in the consolation brackets.
In the Flight 7 Singles final, Eckel won the second set against Texas' Carlene Leyden to force the tiebreaker set, but eventually lost, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.
Huet lost to Julie Chao of Rice in the Flight 2 Singles final, 6-2, 6-2.
Kalashnikova and Radan lost in the singles semifinals on Saturday but played in the consolation brackets on Sunday morning.
In Flight 3 Singles, Kalashnikova defeated SMU's Pavi Francis in the tie-breaker set, 6-1, 3-6, 10-4.
Radan topped Katherina Micochova of Texas-Arlington in Flight 7 Singles, 6-1, 6-2.
The Sooners will continue their fall tournament season at the California Fall Invitational on Oct. 2-4 in Berkeley, Calif.
