Eckel and Huet Advance to Rice Classic Singles Finals

HOUSTON—Oklahoma's Tara Eckel and Marie-Pier Huet won Saturday to advance to the Rice Classic singles finals.

Eckel defeated Kavya Menon of Texas-San Antonio, 7-6(4), 6-3, in the Flight 7 singles semifinals. Huet advanced after LSU's Whitney Wolf retired in the second set. Huet led Wolf, 7-6 (4), 4-3, before the retirement.

OU's Kristina Radan and Maria Kalashnikova fell in the singles semifinals Saturday and will play in the consolation bracket finals on Sunday.

Kalashnikova lost to Rice's Jessica Jackson in Flight 3 Singles, 7-5, 6-2, while Rice's Becca Lin topped Radan in a three-hour match. Radan forced the match into a tie-breaker set after claiming the second set, but eventually fell, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.

Both Sooner duos lost in doubles, after collecting three wins on Friday. Eckel and Radan lost to Alex Rasch and Jessica Jackson of Rice in the Flight 3 Doubles final, 8-4, while Huet and Kalashnikova fell to Federicka Denti and Giorgia Pozzan of Sam Houston State in the Flight 1 Doubles consolation bracket, 8-6.

The Rice Classic will conclude with the final singles rounds on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
