WACO, Texas – Oklahoma junior Ionut Beleleu remains the only Sooner to move onto Sunday's action at the Baylor Invitational.
Beleleu began the day battling Big 12 foe Raphael Pfister of Texas Tech. Beleleu jumped on Pfister early and never looked back, winning the match 6-4, 6-2.
In his second match, against Louisiana-Lafayette's Piotr Banas, Beleleu took the first set 7-6, but dropped the second 6-1. Beleleu claimed the victory after taking the super tiebreaker set 1-0(9).
Going into the day OU had four individuals competing. The Sooners began the day in doubles quarterfinal action as Beleleu teamed with senior Andrei Daescu to take on OSU's Aleksey Bessonov and Oleksandr Nedovyesov. However, the Sooners fell short against their in-state rival dropping the match, 8-4.
Following doubles action, sophomore George Chanturia took on Wisconsin's Moritz Baumann, the tournaments second overall seed in the singles main draw. Chanturia dropped both sets 6-1, 6-3.
Freshman Costin Paval was the final Sooner to fall Saturday. Paval was pitted against Tennessee's Max Stevens and he took the first set 6-1, but dropped the next two sets 6-4, 1-0.
Beleleu is set to take on Arkansas' Matt Hogan in the consolation bracket semifinals at 9:30 a.m., Sunday.
