NORMAN, Okla. -- The 44th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's tennis team begins post-season play, at the 2009 Big 12 Championships in Norman, Okla., the sixth seeded Sooners will take on No. 3 seed Texas on Friday, April 24 at 3:00 p.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

Oklahoma (12-9, 1-5 Big 12) will play the 15th-ranked Longhorns for the second time this season. The first meeting went the Longhorns way as they defeated OU, 5-2, at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

“We're looking forward to the rematch with Texas,” OU head coach Paul Lockwood said. “We think we had a close match with them the first time and probably could have played a little bit better.”

Junior Andrei Daescu, No. 69 nationally, leads the Sooners against Texas. OU also boasts two ranked doubles squads in senior Sergey Avdeyev and sophomore Ionut Beleleu, No. 46, as well as Daescu and sophomore David Pultr, No. 79.

“We are glad to be playing here at home for the Big 12 Championships,” Lockwood said. “Hopefully the weather will cooperate with the winds so we can play the match outside but If not we will go inside to our brand new indoor tennis pavilion.”
