NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team heads to Tuscaloosa, Ala., Saturday, Feb. 7 to face the Crimson Tide of Alabama.

OU (2-0) and Alabama (3-0) have met five times previously, with the Crimson Tide holding the advantage, 4-1.  The Sooners gained their first win against Alabama in program history on Feb. 23, 2008, defeating the Tide, 4-3.

The two wins marked the team's first head-to-head matches with new head coach David Mullins, who was named 2008 ITA Assistant Coach of the Year while coaching with No. 1 ranked Northwestern.

"This match with Alabama will be a great indicator of where we are right now,” Mullins said. “It will be a very tough test and I am looking forward to seeing how this young team responds."

Leading the Sooners will be sophomore Ana-Maria Constantinescu, named All-Big 12 and Central Region Rookie of the Year in 2008, enters the Alabama match ranked in the ITA top 125 singles players and No. 6 in the Central Region.  Last week Constantinescu shut out Anne Weijenborg of UALR at the No. 1 singles position, 6-0, 6-0.

Saturday's match is one of OU's 13 road matches this season.  The Sooners return home to the Headington Family Tennis Center March 8 for a double-header against Oklahoma Baptist and Oral Roberts.
