OU Faces Tough Road Challenge

NORMAN, Okla.—The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team travels to Wichita, Kan., Sunday, Feb. 15 to face the Wichita State Shockers in a head-to-head dual match at 2 p.m.

Oklahoma holds a 21-2 series advantage over the Shockers. The two teams last met on Feb. 15, 2008 at the Shockers home court. The Sooners were edged out of the match, losing 4-2 to then-ranked No. 34, Wichita State.

The Sooners (2-1) enter the match following their first loss of the season after falling to Alabama last Saturday, 4-2. WSU is also coming off its first loss of the season, losing 6-1 to No. 44 BYU. The Shockers are ranked No. 72 nationally and doubles pair, Anna Egorova and Lutflana Budiharto, are ranked No. 30 nationally.

"Wichita State has one of the toughest teams in our region,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “I am expecting a really tough match on Sunday."

Leading the Sooners will be sophomore standout Ana-Maria Constantinescu, ranked No. 98 nationally and No. 6 in the Central Region. Constantinescu is undefeated this season at the No. 1 singles position. Constantinescu defeated No. 72 singles player Tiffany Welcher of Alabama last Saturday, 7-5, 6-3.

"The team is ready for the challenge after another great week of practice in our new indoor facility," Mullins said.
