Eckel Wins Singles Title on Day Two

SAN DIEGO, Calif.—Oklahoma junior Tara Eckel claimed the Singles Gold Championship Saturday as the Sooners go 5-3 on day two of the San Diego State Invitational.

Eckel defeated Miranda Young of UC Irvine in the Singles Gold final, 7-5, 6-0. The title marks the Sooners' fourth title win and Eckel's first this fall.

Sophomore Kristina Radan picked up another win in Singles Black, defeating Washington's Aleksandra Malovic, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2. Radan will face Rebecca Kwan of UC Irvine in the Singles Black final Sunday with the win.

Radan will also play in the Doubles Red Consolation final Sunday with partner Maria Kalashnikova. The OU pair defeated Rebecca Kwan and Miranda Young of UC Irvine in the semifinals, 8-4.

Two OU freshman will also play in consolation finals Sunday. Katelyn Connelly will play in the Singles Black Consolation final after beating San Diego State's Olivia Colman in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-2. Connelly will play Colman's teammate Roxanne Ellison in the final.

Brittany Parks will play Washington's Vanja Radunovic in the Singles White Consolation Sunday after shutting out UC Irvine's Ali Murphy in the semis, 6-0, 6-0.
