TULSA, Okla. – Senior Andrei Daescu advanced to the quarterfinals of the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships after defeating Georgia's Jamie Hunt and Raony Carvalho of Texas Tech.
Daescu began the day in a battle with head coach John Roddick's alma mater, Georgia. Daescu defeated Hunt, No. 37 nationally, in three sets. The first set went in favor of Daescu, 7-6. However, Daescu stumbled in the second set and Hunt took advantage winning it 6-3. In the third set Daescu returned the favor and took the set, 6-3.
In Daescu's second match he handily defeated the nations No. 25 ranked player, Raony Carvalho of Texas Tech. Daescu cruised to a victory after taking both sets 6-1, 6-2.
In the quarterfinals Daescu will face Kentucky's Eric Quigley, No. 70 nationally. Quigley defeated the nations No. 1 singles player in the country, Aleksandr Nedovyesov of Oklahoma State, to make to the quarters.
