Sooners Play Host on Day One of ITA Regionals

NORMAN, Okla.--Two Sooners were eliminated Wednesday during singles qualifying at the Wilson/ITA Central Region Women's Championships.

Junior Tara Eckel and Freshman Brittany Parks represented the host school in singles qualifying of the tournament. Both Sooners fell in the second round, narrowly missing qualification for the Main Draw.

Eckel defeated Kristen Gray of Oral Roberts in the first round, 6-2, 1-6, 1-0(5). Eckel then fell to the qualifying round's No. 2 seed Jie Zeng of Tulsa, 6-3, 6-4.

Parks earned the qualifying round's No. 6 seed and a bye in the first round. Parks then lost to Caroline Beaulieu of Tulsa in the second round, 6-3, 6-3.

Eight players from singles qualifying advance to Main Draw singles which features the top 64 players from the ITA Central Region.

OU's Ana-Maria Constantinescu, Maria Kalashnikova, Marie-Pier Huet, Kristina Radan and Teona Tsertsvadze begin competition in the Main Draw Thursday, beginning with the first two rounds of singles at 9 a.m.
