TULSA, Okla. - Senior Andrei Daescu fell in the finals of the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships to the nations No. 2 ranked player, John-Patrick Smith of Tennessee.
Daescu became the first Sooner to make an appearance in the finals of the All-American Championships and his route to the finals was quite impressive. Daescu defeated the nations No. 6, 18, 25, 37 and 70-ranked players on his way to the finals match. However, after a hard-fought match Daescu came up just short of being named the tournament champion.
The Volunteers No. 1 player won the finals match in two sets. Daescu dropped the first set in dramatic fashion, 7-6. In the second set Smith proved why he is so highly ranked. He took the set, 6-3, to claim the singles Championship.
Next up for Roddick's squad is a trip to Austin, Texas, to compete in the USA Futures, Oct. 12-25.
