Tsertsvadze and Radan Advance to Finals

EVANSTON, Ill.—The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team finished 6-3 on day one of the Wildcat Invite at Northwestern University on Friday, with a Sooner duo advancing to the Flight B doubles final.
Sophomore Kristina Radan and freshman Teona Tsertsvadze won three doubles matches on Friday to advance to the Flight B doubles final against Kate Turvy and Stacey Lee of Northwestern.
Radan and Tsertsvadze defeated Hannah Berner and Angela Chupa of Wisconsin in the first round, 8-4, before topping Minnesota's Magdalena Wiecha and Peta Forsyth in a close quarterfinals match, 8-6. Radan and Tsertsvadze dominated Josefin Andersson and Adriana Periera of South Carolina, 8-1, in their third match of the day to advance to the doubles final.
“Today we played some of the best doubles that I have seen since I have coached here,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “I was really impressed with the girls' attitudes and decision making.”
Juniors Tara Eckel and Maria Kalashnikova went 2-1 on the day, dropping their only match in the quarterfinals. The Sooner duo defeated Prang Pantusart and Angelina Jogasuria of Akron in the first round, 8-6, before falling to Cosmina Ciobanu and Colleen Rielley of Notre Dame, 8-3. Eckel and Kalashnikova picked up their second win in the consolation bracket, defeating Anya Morgini and Madeleine Bystrom of South Carolina, 8-1.
OU freshman Katelyn Connelly and sophomore Marie-Pier Huet defeated Elena Chernyakova and Linda Abu Mushrefova of Northwestern, 8-6. Huet and Connelly lost to Katarina Milinkovic and Selma Salkovic of Depaul in the quarterfinals, 8-2, and then fell to Wisconsin's Katya Mirnova and Aleksandra Markovic in the consolation bracket, 8-6.
