Daescu Continues to Roll

Two Sooners Ranked in ITA Preseason

NORMAN, Okla.—University of Oklahoma Sooner men's tennis players were ranked among the top 125 players in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings released Thursday.

Andrei Daescu, ranked No. 22, is coming off a strong season that saw him go 15-7 against the opposing number one players'. Twelve of Daescu's 22 opponents in the 2008 campaign were ranked, including a victory over then-No. 8 Lars Poerscke of Baylor.

Sergey Avdeyev, who occupied the number two spot for the Sooners last year, debuted in the rankings at 122nd. Avdeyev has a career winning percentage of .650. The only senior on this OU squad, Avdeyev finished his 2008 season 7-13.

Both Daescu and Avdeyev will begin their fall 2008 season in Costa Mesa, Calif., at the Costa Mesa Pro Futures Classic on Sept. 12.
