COSTA MESA, Calif. - Oklahoma Sooner Andrei Daescu completed his run at the Costa Mesa Pro Futures Classic, losing to ATP's 465th-rated player Zack Fleishman, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
With the loss, Daescu ends his fall season-opening win streak at four.
"It was a well played match by Andrei," OU assistant coach Silviu Tanasoiu said. "This test shows us that Andrei can battle some of the top players on the pro circuit."
Daescu will be back in action at the ITA All-American Tournament in Tulsa, Okla., where he will play both singles and doubles. Daescu will team with Ionut Beleleu in the qualifying rounds Oct. 6-8. He previously qualified for the main draw in singles, scheduled for Oct. 9-12.
"I am very proud of the way Andrei competed this weekend against professional caliber opponents," Oklahoma head coach Paul Lockwood said. "We now know what we need to work on to get him to his highest level of competition."
The men's tennis team is scheduled to participate in the HEB Baylor Intercollegiate Sept. 26-28.
