NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team opens its fall season this weekend, debuting in two different locations.
Three members of the team -- Ionut Beleleu, George Chanturia and Chase Miller -- will be traveling to Annapolis, Md., to play the Navy Invitational. The trio will join three players from Arkansas to form a team. They will compete against Navy, Maryland and Richmond in a round-robin format.
While half of the team is in Annapolis, two other players will be starting their fall season in Costa Mesa, Calif. at the Costa Mesa Pro Futures Classic. No. 22 Andrei Daescu and No. 122 Sergey Avdeyev will be going up against many of the nation's top-ranked players in this ATP sanctioned event.
Daescu, who has already played in an ATP tournament this fall, went 2-1 defeating ITA's No. 44 Blake Strode of Arkansas, 7-5, 6-4, and Shane La Porte 6-2, 6-2, before falling to ranked professional Peter Bester 6-2, 6-3.
