NORMAN, Okla. -- Adding to her list of honors following one of the most productive freshman campaigns in OU women's tennis history, Ana-Maria Constantinescu has been named the ITA Rookie Player of the Year for the organization's Central Region.
Constantinescu, who compiled a 24-9 singles record in 2007-08, was one of eight regional winners in the country and is now eligible for the ITA's national rookie award that will be announced May 20. She led the Sooners with a 15-5 spring record at No. 1 singles and posted a 14-7 mark at No. 1 doubles with teammate Chelsea Orr.
From Bucharest, Romania, Constantinescu also earned All-Big 12 honors on April 29. She was one of three freshmen among the 12 all-league honorees for singles play. In the fall, Constantinescu reached the ITA Regional Championships final and later competed in the National Indoor Championships where she advanced to the second round before losing to the tournament's No. 1 seed.
Additionally, Constantinescu was presented with the University of Oklahoma's Jay Myers Award in April, given to freshman athletes who best combine excellence in scholarship with potential excellence in their sport.
