NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team (8-7, 1-3) swept Kansas State, defeating the Wildcats 7-0, Saturday in Manhattan, Kan.
"We had a great day," OU head coach Mark Johnson said. "I was really pleased with the girls and their performance today. It was a good win."
The Sooners took the lead early, taking wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions.
The No. 3 pair of Tara Eckel and Maria Kalashnikova were down 7-4, with the doubles point on the line. The Sooner duo rallied back to take the match 9-8 (7-4) and claim the point for OU.
"Tara and Maria really pulled through for us today," Johnson said. "I am very pleased with how they stayed focused and pulled through."
In singles action, Oklahoma took wins at all six spots. The Sooners were again led by No. 87 Ana-Maria Constantinescu. The Romania native defeated Viviana Yrureta 6-0, 6-2.
"We played very good singles today," Johnson said. "In fact, we just played very well. We need to take this momentum into next weekend."
Oklahoma will return home to host Iowa State on Friday, April 4, at 5 p.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
