Oklahoma Downs Jacksonville, 6-1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team (7-5, 0-2) picked up a 6-1 victory Wednesday at the University of Jacksonville (9-4).

The Sooners win put an end to the Dolphins six-match winning streak.

"It was a good road win for us," OU head coach Mark Johnson said. "It was close, but we played well when it was tight."

The Sooners took an early 1-0 lead sweeping all three doubles positions to earn the first point.

At No. 1 doubles, the duo of Ana-Maria Constantinescu and Chelsea Orr defeated Iva Jaresova and Tatiana Soldatova, 8-0, to improve to 10-1 on the season.

Oklahoma held the Dolphins to one singles victory, which came at the No. 3 spot. Jacksonville's Soldatova knocked off freshman Maria Kalashnikova, 6-2, 6-3.

At No. 1 singles, Constantinescu bounced back from a three-match losing streak to defeat Lina Xu in three sets. The freshman took the first set 7-6, before falling 4-6 in the second. With the match already decided, the duo played a tie-breaker for the third with the Sooner claiming the victory 10-6.

"We started pretty slow in singles," Johnson said. "But finished strong and really played well when it was tight."

Oklahoma will return to the courts Saturday, March 22, when they travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on Texas Christian University at 12 p.m.
