NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's team (6-4, 0-1) fell 7-0 to No. 18 Texas (6-2, 2-0) Saturday, in its Big 12 opener at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
The win increased Texas' series record to 19-1 over the Sooners.
"It was a very tough match," OU head coach Mark Johnson said. "Texas is a strong team. We did some good things, but we did not win the big points. You can't beat a good team if you don't win the big points."
As a team Oklahoma won a single set. The lone set came at the No. 6 position. Freshman Tara Eckel, fell 7-5 in the first set before defeating Texas' Jane Pringle 6-0 in the second. The Dallas, Texas, native then fell 7-6 in the third set.
"Tara played tough," Johnson said. "I'm pleased with the way she competed."
In doubles action, Texas' Vanja Corovic and Marija Milic put an end to the undefeated streak of Chelsea Orr and Ana-Maria Constantinescu. The Sooner duo fell behind 5-2, early. They then rallied back bringing the score to 6-6, before falling 6-8.
Oklahoma will return to the courts Sunday, March 16, when they host No. 26 Texas A&M. The first serve is set to take place at 1 p.m.
