The Sooners (5-2) enter Saturday's match after defeating Alabama last Saturday at the Greens Golf and Country Club in Oklahoma City. The victory was not only the program's first win against the Crimson Tide, it gave head coach Mark Johnson his 300th win.
"I don't really pay close attention to all that," said Johnson. "But even numbers are nice and that win against Alabama was a great one to get it on."
Johnson gives the Sooners its second active tennis coach to reach 300 wins. OU head men's tennis coach Paul Lockwood achieved his 300th coaching victory last season.
Saturday's meeting will mark the 18th time Oklahoma has gone head-to-head with the Golden Eagles. OU currently leads the series 16-1. The last meeting was March 4, 2007, when Oklahoma took the win 7-0.
"It is always nice to play the other in-state teams," said Johnson. "We always look forward to our meeting with ORU."
In doubles action, OU is currently led by Ana-Maria Constantinescu and Chelsea Orr. The duo is currently ranked 34th in the latest ITA standings. Both Sooners are also ranked in the ITA singles standings with Orr ranking at No. 92 and Constantinescu at No. 99.
"I am really proud of what those two have accomplished thus far," said Johnson. "They work hard every day and are really playing well."
