NORMAN, Okla.—The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team continues its fall season Friday at the Wildcat Invitational in Evanston, Ill.
The Sooners will see their toughest competition yet, facing DePaul, Illinois, LSU, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, South Carolina, and Wisconsin. Seven of the nine participating teams finished the 2007-2008 season nationally ranked in the ITA top 75. Northwestern, the host school, finished last season at No. 2 in the nation and has five singles players ranked in the 2008 ITA preseason top 125.
"This weekend will be a great test for the Sooners. They will have to play eight matches in just three days,” Mullins said. “They will be able to take advantage of some great competition and I am looking forward to some OU-Northwestern matchups."
OU head coach Dave Mullins spent the last three seasons as assistant coach at Northwestern. With the Wildcats, Mullins was named 2008 ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year and helped the Wildcats to an impressive 77-12 record.
