TULSA, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team won two singles matches Monday at the ITA All-American Tournament.
Sooners Sergey Avdeyev and Ionut Beleleu advanced to the second round of singles qualifying with their wins.
Playing in his first match of the fall, Avdeyev, who is rated No. 122 by the ITA, defeated Arizona's Jason Zafiros in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Avdeyev will take the court again on Tuesday morning against Maor Zirkin of Drake at 8 a.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Beleleu continued his season opening winning streak to seven by defeating Eoin Heavey of California, 7-6 (6), 6-3. Beleleu meets Florida's Carlos Cueto at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
In addition to his singles match, Beleleu will team with fellow Sooner Andrei Daescu in the first round of qualifying in doubles at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday against Tim Puetz and Alexey Tsyrenov of Auburn.
The match marks the first time Daescu takes the court with a partner this fall, while Beleleu is 2-0 in previous doubles matches.
