TULSA, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma came out of Saturday's second round play with a 3-2 record.
Sophomore Ionut Beleleu (5-0) was able to keep a blemish off of his record by defeating Gardner-Webb's Evgeny Selsarev, 6-4 6-3, and Miami's J.C. Whitner 6-3, 6-4.
Freshman George Chanturia emerged victorious from his morning match against Michael Gaerthoeffner, 6-3, 7-6 (7), before falling to David Simson of Denver, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 in his afternoon bout.
Junior transfer Blake Boswell was the only Sooner to compete on Friday afternoon. He fell is his first match as a Sooner to Minnesota's Dino Bilankov, 7-5, 6-4.
Beleleu will continue play Sunday against Dmitry Lededev at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Should Beleleu win, he will join fellow Sooner Sergey Avdeyev in the singles qualifying round on Monday. Beleleu will also join No.22-ranked Andrei Daescu in doubles qualifying play on Tuesday.
