FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team was eliminated from competition at the ITA Central Regional Championships on Sunday. T
he Sooners finish the tournament with an 11-6 record. Senior Sergey Avdeyev fell short of the Central Regional final by one win. After a long hard fought quarterfinal match in which he had to go the distance to defeat Nebraska's David Bendheim, 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-3, Avdeyev could not keep up with No. one see Amau Bruges of Tulsa dropping the match, 6-0, 6-0. J
unior Andrei Daescu was eliminated by Matt Hogan of Arkansas, 7-5, 6-4, in the first match of the day. Hogan would eventually go on to advance to the final, topping Moar Zirkin of Drake, 6-3, 6-4.
The third Sooner in action of Sunday, junior Blake Boswell was dropped in the consolation quarterfinals by Drake's Ivan Mendoza, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.
Oklahoma awaits the ITA National Indoor Championships at-large selections to see if Its fall season will continue.
