FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team had four players in action on Saturday at the ITA Central Regional Championships.
Senior Sergey Avdeyev and Junior Andrei Daescu advanced to the final eight in singles main draw, while junior Blake Boswell advanced in the consolation bracket. No. 5 seed Avdeyev downed Serge Ristivojevic of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, 6-2, 6-2. Avdeyev has yet to lose a game in the tournament.
ITA No. 22 and No. 2 seed in the tournament, Daescu defeated Oklahoma State's Nathan Byrnes in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-0.
Boswell, who fell in his first match of the tournament, rebounded with a victory Saturday, beating Nebraska's Francois Van Impe, 7-6 (5), 6-3.
The lone Sooner to fall on Saturday was Sophomore Ionut Beleleu. Calin Paar of Nebraska handed Beleleu his second loss of the fall, 6-3, 6-2. Through Saturday, the Sooners own a 11-3 record at the ITA Central Regional Championships.
